Talking Points for Coastal Commission Hearing June 10-12, 2009
Here is a list of a few talking points you may raise at public comment on any day Wed-Fri this week at the Marina del Rey Hotel.
- the piecemeal process of redevelopment that obscures cumulative impacts, ignores the California Environmental Quality Act.
- The need for a proper, community-based Master Plan (see Argonaut article)
- the lack of ANY opportunity for public participation in the land use decisions of parcels (eg development uses public parking lots)
- the threatened loss of public parking, views and promised recreational development
- The fact that County still intends to move the birds even though the Commission said not to follow this method
- the lack of plans for additional recreational opportunities for a growing population
- the poor performance of completed redevelopment projects (eg Esprit I, Admiralty Apartments, high vacancy rates)
- the made-to-order boater "study" that used skewed and flawed data provided by the County
- the developer-heavy "LCP Review Response working group" setup, and the lack of any public hearing by the County on the Review, as promised to the Coastal Commission in January 2008
- the County's continued refusal to hold a public review of its comprehensive redevelopment plan (or to fully inform us of what that plan is)
