WAM Scores Coastal Commission Victory

Published Oct 25, 2008

Last Thursday, members of We ARE Marina del Rey and other community organizations traveled to Ventura for three agenda items for Marina del Rey: the Design Control Board Amendment, an Oxford Basin project and the hearing of the Revised Findings for the LCP Periodic Review. While we were unable to convince the Commission to reject the DCB amendment, they did postpone the Oxford Basin project start date in consideration of nesting herons.

Our major success was convincing them to revise the language of an important recommendation that LA County carry out an overall LCP Update Amendment versus just a study of impacts. This is significant and supports the community's contention that the County is piecemealing projects to hide environmental and social impacts.
