To Supervisor Knabe from WAM reader
June 16, 2008
Dear Supervisor Knabe:
It was an honor and a pleasure for me to “Meet and Greet” you for the first time at Burton Chase Park Community Room last Thursday. I’m told your public appearances in the Marina are quite rare, and I felt fortunate, and privileged to be in your esteemed presence.
I must say, however, that the pictures I’ve seen of you in the newspapers and campaign posters do not do you justice. I was surprised to find that in person you are a much slimmer, much younger looking man . You simply must get a new photographer!
All in all, I thought the meeting went quite well. You are a very attentive listener. As we, the public expressed our visions of the Marina, and particularly as we voiced our grievances, you hardly interrupted us. In fact you hardly said anything at all except to inform us now and then of the latest basketball scores. I was proud of you for that, knowing that a less dedicated public servant would have just skipped the meeting altogether and stayed home to enjoy the game.
Mr. Knabe, I wish to express my gratitude to you for finally coming to the Marina and making yourself accessible to us. We’ve been waiting a long time to “Meet and Greet” the man who is doing so much for so few for the sake of our community. You truly understand the problems involved in understanding the problems of the people whose problems you’re committed to understanding. Just the fact that you showed up, and clarified these matters for us speaks volumes about your passionate commitment to our cause.
We in the community wonder if you will grant us another such meeting in the future. I for one, await your return like a virgin with lamp lit, and pray that it will be within my lifetime. Will you please tell us when you plan to visit our community again so we may be sure to get there for the latest Lakers score? I’ll bring my giant foam finger.
Sincerely, Ruddy Turnstone
